Pairing the device to your phone - first time
Pairing for the first time
Before you pair your Spectacles, be sure to:
- Verify that you’re using a compatible phone and OS
- Download the Spectacles App from the App Store or Play Store (Spectacles '24 can only be paired with the Spectacles App, not Snapchat. See here for help pairing Spectacles 1, 2 or 3).
- Ensure you have a Snapchat account
- Turn your phone’s Bluetooth on
- Open the Spectacles App
- Connect your Snapchat account to the Spectacles App - by completing this step you are agreeing to the Privacy Policy, Spectacles 2024 Supplemental Privacy Policy, Safety Warnings, and Terms of Service.
Once you’ve got through that list, while your Spectacles are on, open the Spectacles App and:
- Turn on your Spectacles by holding the right temple button for 3 seconds. Wait for the opening animations to complete before beginning setup.
- Tap Begin Setup
- Hold the left temple button of your Spectacles for 7 seconds
- Verify the Bluetooth Pairing Request
- Select a Wi-Fi network and input the password when prompted
- If you have a compatible device (iphone 10 or later) you’ll be prompted to use the IPD (interpupillary distance) Lens to measure the distance between your pupils, this will help give you the best experience with Spectacles. You can manually adjust this later if required in the Spectacles App settings.
- A summary of the data collection for the camera and microphone will be shown with a link to further information. If you’re happy to accept then tap Sounds Good! Note: It’s not possible to continue using Spectacles without accepting these terms as the camera and microphone, and the data they collect, is necessary for the Spectacles to function
- Choose between enabling or disabling location data on Spectacles
- Finally you’ll be asked if you want to accept notifications from Spectacles
When that’s all squared away you’ll have a ‘Pairing Complete’ confirmation message and you’ll be taken to the Tutorial Lens where you’ll learn some of the basic gestures needed to navigate with Spectacles.
It’s possible there will be a software update available in the Spectacles App, and we will always recommend you are on the latest version to get the best experience.
Once that’s complete you’re all set to start exploring with your Spectacles!
Note: You can pair multiple devices to a single phone - but only one pair of Spectacles can be active at a time. Only the active pair of Spectacles will be able to import captures, or collect location data while capturing. Pairing an additional pair of Spectacles to your account will disconnect any previously paired Spectacles.
Re-pairing Spectacles
If for some reason your Spectacles become unpaired, you will be prompted to repair when you next open the Spectacles App.
If you’re having trouble pairing
If you’re unable to pair or re-pair your new Spectacles, keep in mind:
- Spectacles need to have at least 10% battery life to pair
- Your phone’s Bluetooth must be turned on
- Your phone must be connected to the internet
- Your phone must be in close proximity to the Spectacles
Still not pairing?
Spectacles require the latest version of the Spectacles mobile app for iOS or Android. Visit the App Store or Play Store to make sure you’re up to date.
If your Snapchat app is already up to date, try forgetting any existing Spectacles in your Bluetooth menu, turning Bluetooth off, and powering off your phone. Wait 1 minute, then power your phone back on. When your phone has powered on again, turn Bluetooth on as well. Then, follow the steps in the ‘Pairing the device to your phone - first time’ section above.
