About Spectacles '24
Spectacles ‘24, powered by Snap OS, are standalone, see-through AR glasses with a built-in dimmer that automatically adjusts based on ambient light conditions to keep the display clearly visible both indoors and outdoors. The indoor transparency facilitates eye contact for natural social interactions and connected experiences. Experience immersive Lenses together, use My AI, and extend your Snapchat and other phone experiences into three dimensions. With Lens Studio 5.0, hobbyists and professional developers can easily build and iterate on Lenses.
Spectacles feature a self-contained battery and dual-System on a Chip (SoC) architecture, designed to balance compute needs and hardware constraints while remaining compact, untethered, and standalone glasses.
Spectacles have a see-through stereo display with a 46° diagonal field of view that keeps your eyes visible and connects you to others and the world around you.
Snap OS is a hands-based, spatial operating system for experiencing augmented reality together with others around you. Snap OS is designed to seamlessly integrate into your life without covering your field of view and is anchored on your palm and the back of your hand. It features advanced realtime tracking (6Dof, hands, surfaces, and mapped features) capabilities that provide accurate and true augmentation of your surroundings, mapping of your environment, and continuous hand tracking for input over a large field of view. Snap OS powers a variety of AR experiences that unlock everyday value for learning, entertainment, and staying active.
Spectacles provide you with a variety of ways to share your AR experience with others. Whether it is enjoying interactive experiences with others using Spectacles in the same place like building a Make Believe world or playing a game of Chess together. They also let you passively invite others to your AR experience using Spectator in the Spectacles App to give them a glimpse into Spectacles augmented world from their point of view directly on the phone in the same space. If people are not around you, you can use See What I See to show them your PoV through a video call with Snapchat and give them a chance to augment your surroundings. To share to the world, Spectacles let you capture up to 30 seconds of your AR experience to share with the world online.
With My AI, Spectacles put the power of multi-modal generative AI in your hands to provide a variety of rich responses, including web results, 3D generative assets, and spatially-arranged video.
Spectacles’ see-through, untethered, and compact form factor makes them the most wearable immersive XR device on the market. They unlock your ability to roam freely outdoors where the automatic tint keeps the display clearly visible in bright and sunny conditions. Take a virtual Peridot for a walk in the park or shoot some hoops with the Basketball Lens on your favorite court.
The new Lens Studio 5.0 is Spectacles’ end to end “AR first” development platform – designed for productivity, modularity, and speed. It enables hobbyists and professional developer teams to collaborate and build rich and complex end-to-end wearable AR experiences intuitively and efficiently with no setup time, and seamless wireless deployment to Spectacles.
To streamline and speed up the creation of spatial and hand-interactive experiences, we are introducing the Spectacles Interaction Kit (SiK) – a Lens Studio SDK that provides a set of defined interaction mechanics, suite of UI controls, and behaviors. Using SiK, you can quickly and easily compose interactive experiences that are easy to use and consistent with the overall Spectacles experience.
With Colocated Lenses, we offer developers the ability to build social-first shared AR experiences on Spectacles using the Snapchat social graph. Colocated Lenses make it seamless to synchronize interactions among multiple participants in the same space. Len Studio 5.0 also supports simulating multiplayers accelerating development & testing.
We have seen how real-time custom ML object trackers bring out the true magic of AR, turning everyday objects into controllers that can interact with digital content, and blending the line between the physical and virtual. With the new SnapML capabilities on Spectacles, you can bundle custom ML models directly into your Lens to accurately identify, 3D track, and augment common objects. This can include tracking a basketball to see if it went into the hoop or tracking piano keys to overlay a piano roll. Spectacles provide developers.
