Update Your Spectacles!
Please make sure you update to the latest release from your Spectacles Home to get the best experience.
Experimental Features
Enable new experimental features from Spectacles Settings.
In May, we released our new Spectacles as a development tool for creators looking to push the boundaries of AR. While our initial release provided a solid foundation for you to build AR experiences using Lens Studio, we have exciting capabilities we want to get in your hands ASAP.
In line with our approach to build with the AR community, we are introducing experimental features —capabilities designed to help us better understand what you want from your Spectacles experience. We are also releasing sample Lenses which enable you to build on top of existing features. Download the Lens projects and use them to build and evolve your own creations.
Experimental features evolve quickly and thus have the following limitations:
- They may be modified, or deprecated without notice, and
- Lenses built on top of some experimental features may not be publishable to everyone.
To enable experimental features, go to the Spectacles Settings tab to enable them. Some experimental features will be off by default.
Doggie Detective Lens
Showcasing Endurance Mode & Location Triggers (experimental)
We want to make easier for you to create Lenses that adapt to changes in your location through:
Location Triggers - lets your Lenses respond to changes in the GPS location from your phone when you enter or leave specific locations. (See template)
Endurance Mode - lets you run Lenses longer by turning off the display in between interactions with your Lens. (See template)
To bring those capabilities to life and provide inspiration, we’ve built the Doggie Detective Lens. This interactive adventure game takes you on an AR journey around Culver City, Los Angeles to find a lost French bulldog.
Note: When you toggle Background Location on in Experimental Features in Spectacles Home, your location will be collected for 1 hour regardless of whether you background the Snapchat app or swipe out of the Location Lens. Each time you use a Location Lens your location will be collected for 1 hour. The location information shared will be used to provide a Location Lens on Spectacles but that location information can also be used by other Snapchat features. You can stop sharing this location information by toggling Background Location off.
Scan Lenses
Add visual scan capabilities to your Lenses
The Scan component lets you scan objects, places, cars and dogs in the world around you. It leverages Snap’s Scan technology to enable your Lens to recognize many different objects.
The scanned result can be pulled with a custom script from the Scan Module. You can learn more here.
Please note: The default Scan Lens template in Lens Studio is not optimized for Spectacles. To get it to work on the unit, you need to remove the ‘Blur Post’ effect as shown below:
Bug Reporting
Improve bug reporting to accelerate fixes
If you encounter an issue or a bug, you can now select the ‘Report a Bug’ option from your Spectacles home in the Snapchat app. This will also provide us with detailed logs to improve your Spectacles experience.
Lens Studio 4.7 - Spectacles Highlights
Notes about some new Lens Studio will work on Spectacles
The new release of Lens Studio 4.7 is out. Checkout the latest features. For Spectacles, we would like to highlight the following limitations:
Limited support for:
- 3D Text - Generate 3D meshes from text easily using the 3D Text Component. On Spectacles, recording is not supported for this component.
- SDF (Signed Distance Field) Generator - Allows you to generate a 3D texture using 3D Meshes. This can be used in the VFX component. On Spectacles, VFX does not support recording.
Unsupported features for Spectacles
- Media Picker / Green Screen template
